General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nii Armah Akomfrah has expressed disappointment of his party at the decisions taken by the 5 Member Panel to discuss the way forward on whether to maintain or use new voters’ register for the 2016 election.

According to him, the CPP says it is also not convinced that the 5 Member Panel did explain its reasons for not being convinced by the argument of the political parties demanding for a new voters’ register.
Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Mr. Nii Armah Akomfrah quizzed “how many aliens need to be on the register or minors need to be on the register for the argument for new register to be convincing?”.

He maintained that the 5 Member Panel should have been specific with its recommendations, stating whether the current voters’ register is bogus or not; stressing that “we are disappointed that we didn’t get an outcome that we would like and that is new voters’ register”.

He indicated that the CPP Committee will visit the website of the Electoral Commission (EC) to check the details of the 16 recommendations; insisting that the CPP is disappointed there will be no new register for the 2016 election.

In the opinion of the CPP, the Chief Scribe stated the country will be satisfied with a new register because as a country, Ghanaians should enter an election period and be content with the register as well as be convinced with the election outcome.

He was certain that the Electoral Commission has a lot of work to do to convince people to be happy with the current voters’ register; thus, Ghanaians are far from being convinced with the current register.

He reiterated that the CPP is looking for answers as well as many Ghanaians who are certain that the current register is pregnant with discrepancy as his party pinpointed to the EC some incongruities at Jomoro electoral area in the Western Region.
