Confession: How I escaped being used for a ritual during s*x

How I escaped being used for a ritual during sex

In Lagos, the term ‘runs girl’ is the synonym for girls who trade s*x for money. Runs girls are often exposed to risks such as rape, beatings and even death and disappearances from their strange bed fellow client. Naij.com Lagos contributorChinenye Obidigbo narrates a story that reveals the risky world of Lagos runs girls. It is gripping.

I was alone at home that afternoon when Michelle ran into our room in the campus with a big smile on her face. I almost thought she had won a lottery. Out of the excitement and despite the hunger, I asked, She was still thanking God for deciding to turn her life around after all these years of suffering and penniless lifestyle? I was amazed as I stared at her in shock. I have never seen Michelle in that excited mood since we became roommates. She called me by the name we usually addressed ourselves with.

My rommie, guess what happen on my way back from school. I replied that I am poor guesser . Let me break the bombshell to you babe. I am now a very rich girl. She announced. I burst out with a loud laugh and dismissed her excitement with a wave of the hand.

She insisted that she was not dreaming. I told her to go straight to the point before I lose my patience. She begin to narrate how she met this very rich Chief who gave her a ride back home where she stood under the scorching sun.

According to her, the Chief happens to be a multimillionaire with businesses all over the country and abroad. She she said the chief had invited her to have dinner with her at a hotel somewhere in town. She said the chief said she could bring her friend along with her. I was becoming excited too at the thought of making some cool cash from the mugu chief.

She pleaded with me to accompany her to see the chief, After much persuasion, I gave in to her request and accompanied her that night. As at 7:45pm, the Chief’s driver was already waiting outside the campus with the latest Range Rover Sports. We got to coded hotel. The chief was already waiting for us. He had also placed a reservation for us.

We had a very nice time with the chief. The man had plenty of cash to throw around. The man was simply swimming in money. He was also so friendly and very generous. While going home that night, he gave us a brand new notes totaling N200, 000 naira each. Imagine making 200k one night. It was a jackpot. Soon I was becoming jealous of my friend.

I was asking myself why I wasn’t th one in her position. A week later, Chief bought a Mercedes jeep for Michelle and actually gave her the keys to a flat in Lekki Peninsula. Being her closest friend and roomie, she begged me to move in with her which I quickly agreed without much conviction.

We started living large. Chief was just so kind and generous to us. We had everything at our beck and call. Just like a whirlwind, we became the happening babes on campus and within the Lekki axis.

I got so carried away that I was enjoying the money without knowing where it was coming from. Chief even took my friend to Paris for shopping. Deep down I was so sad and filled with jealousy for her. She noticed I didn’t take the news kindly to the news. But she promised to buy me stuff from Paris.

A few days later, she left with Chief. That was the last time I set my eyes on Michelle. Her journey was supposed to last for two weeks but a month later, I did not hear from her. I became scared because I was left alone in the house. She never communicated with me right from the first day she left the house.

I came home from school one evening and met Chief at home, out of excitement I rushed into Michelle’s room thinking that she has finally returned but to my utmost astonishment, Michelle was nowhere to be found.

I rushed out immediately to ask Chief, he explained that she will come back later that her trip was a bit extended and immediately changed his countenance towards me by telling me that he actually made a mistake by going out with my friend earlier on.

He promised me heaven and earth if only I could date him secretly without Michelle’s knowledge. I told him that I wouldn’t be able to stab my friend behind her back, that she has been very good to me. He asked the driver to bring his briefcase, he brought out N500, 000, kept it on the table and asked me to think about his request and left.

I was tempted to give in to what Chief had said but I kept worrying about Michelle. One night I became curious and decide to check one of the rooms in the flat that was always kept open. There was a wardrobe inside the room.

Still out of curiosity, I forced the wardrobe open and I shouted. There was my friend sitting on a stool. Her eyes fixed in a daze with a pot on her head.

Her body seem glued to the stool. Was she dead? She was not moving.I shout Jesus and ran out of the house. How could chief have killed my friend in the same house without my knowledge?

Some weeks after, Michell was reported missing. I assisted the police to locate the house. On getting there, the address had changed. The new occupants said there was never a chief there and threatened the police for embarrassing them. But I was sure of what I saw. What had happened.

Given the position I met my friend, I am very convinced that Chief used her for rituals. A search of the house did not produce anything.I am still in shock.

That is why I have become a born again Christian in memory of my friend.

I will never do runs again.

Court orders embattled NUGS President to step aside

Court orders embattled NUGS President to step aside

A Madina District Magistrate Court has ordered embattled President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Paa-Quecy Adu, to step aside until a case challenging his eligibility is resolved.

The National Executive Committee of NUGS early in November this year, suspended Paa-Quecy Adu over a pending lawsuit to allow a final determination by the court.

Mr. Adu not qualified

Press and Information Secretary for NUGS, Thomas Takyi Bonsu, had told Citi News that Mr. Adu who vied for the NUGS presidency on several occasions, was disqualified because per their constitution, any person vying for such position must be a full-time student.
“…This year, he contested and was disqualified based on the same reason and the judicial committee of the union reversed the decision of the vetting committee. That made him qualified to contest. So some students [Ferdinand Boakye Boateng and Paul Kwasi Gyan] are saying that they are still not okay with that and they are taking the same issue to the court.” The Magistrate Court presided over by His Worship, Richard D. Anku, in its ruling on November 26, ordered that Mr. Adu should not hold or transact any business in the name of NUGS until a final determination on the matter is made.

” It is hereby ordered that the defendant whether by himself, his agents, assigns, privies and any other person claiming by or through him hereby restrain from describing or holding himself as or acting conveying any meeting in the name of the plaintiffs or transacting any or purporting to act as a National Executive Member of NUGS and from in any manner interfering with the said National Executive Members of NUGS including the convening of meetings and/or transacting any business in the name and under the authority of the plaintiff/applicant pending the final hearing and determination of this suit or until otherwise ordered,” the court added.

In a related development, a statement from NUGS says they will not accept any responsibility for actions initiated by the beleaguered president “purporting to act as an official of NUGS.

“The general public is hereby advised to refrain from dealing with Mr. Paa-Quecy Adu in any capacity as a NUGS official. His actions are his own responsibility and not that of NUGS” the statement added.

The Students Representative Council of the Central University College, Women’s Commission has honoured Hajia Hanatu Abubakar, Founder and President of the Al- Hayaat Foundation for spearheading the campaign to eradicate cervical cancer in the country.

According to the Commission, the Foundation over the years had embarked on a number of activities to promote healthy lifestyles, education and women empowerment, which were all geared towards nation development.

Ms Beatrice Yeboah Gyimah, the Women’s Commissioner of the University, who made the presentation during a seminar on cervical cancer in Accra, noted that the award served as recognition of efforts made by the Foundation to create more awareness on the need to undergo periodic cervical cancer screening.
Central University honours Al- Hayaat Foundation Founder

She said considering the large number of diagnosed cases, there was a need for women especially young girls to acquire the knowledge about the disease; this she said, would help to save more lives.

“Health goes with work, if you are not health productivity will be low; therefore we believe she is doing a good work, and so, all must support” she added.

The citation was jointly signed by Reverend Godson Ahiabor, Dean of Students and the Women’s Commissioner.

It reads: “In recognition of the foundation’s efforts in rendering service to mankind. This has made the foundation extraordinary in creating awareness on issues relating to Cervical Cancer. The Women’s Commission of the SRC (2014/2015) appreciates your commitment to helping to save lives. Thank you for your enormous contributions to mother Ghana”.

Hajia Abubakar thanked the Women’s Commission for the honour done her and urged all to practice healthy life styles.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the Founder expressed her gratitude and revealed that this was the first time her efforts had been recognized by an institution throughout the Foundation’s five year history.

She said the Foundation targets second cycle and tertiary institutions, and governmental hospitals, although they were also involved in women empowerment initiatives.

The Founder mentioned that among her major challenges had been resources to carry out such activities, however, her passion to impact lives always inspires her to move on.

She said most people were involved in the advocacy of breast cancer, but few were into cervical cancer, as such, her Foundation decided to tread that path by creating more awareness on the disease; considering how alarming its statistics were.

Hajia Abubakar said globally, almost 500,000 women were diagnosed of cervical cancer, yearly, and out of the number 275,000 die, whereas, eighty –five per cent of these cases occurred in developing countries including Ghana.

Hajia Abubakar therefore, called on benevolent individuals, organisations and the government to support the activities of the Al- Hayaat Foundation in carrying out such laudable initiatives.

Accra College of Education launches urgent run for better sanitation

Accra College of Education
Accra College of Education Students
The Accra College of Education (ACCE), Water, Access, Sanitation and Hygiene Club has launched a programme dubbed: “Urgent Run for Better Sanitation and Nutrition,” to improve the health of women and children in the country.

The focus of this year’s programme is on the importance of sanitation for better nutrition because one to three people have no access to a clean and safe toilet that results and increase the risk of illness and malnutrition.

The programme which was an initiative of the African Centre for Culture Tourism and Human Development (ACCTHUD) and marked by the Youth Forum on Environmental Sanitation (YOUTHFES) had received endorsement from the Ministry of Local Government and rural Development.

Addressing the students of the Accra College of Education (ACCE), Mr Delasi Frank Amable, Associate Consultant and Lecturer of MDF Training and Consultancy of the West Africa office in Ghana, blamed the poor sanitation on the wrong attitude of the people.

He said it’s an urgent issue to tackle since an estimated 18,000 Ghanaians, including 5,000 children under the age of five, die every year from ailment related to poor sanitation.

He said so much money had been pump into sanitation to draw the attention about indiscriminate open defecation which calls for serious concern for education on environmental and good hygiene practices.

“You as teachers on training need to take sanitation very important so that you inculcate into the children good hygiene habits and begin to educate people”, he stressed.

Mr Amable lauded ACCTHUD initiative.

Mrs Margaret Asabea Anakwa, a tutor at the school in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said most women get infections because they not have good toilets.

She said the essence of the programme was to draw the attention of policy makers to the need for good sanitation in all schools.

She said the time has come for students on training to be practically supportive of the fight against poor sanitation conditions in schools.

“If government is talking about development then toilets are to improve environmental sanitation and human development,” he said.

Mr Eric Adzor-Daniels, Executive Director of ACCTHUD noted that YOUTHFES project needs support from donors and government to reach out to more communities.

He said the agenda 2030 calls on everyone to renew their efforts in providing access to adequate sanitation worldwide, adding that “we must continue to educate and protect communities at risk and to change cultural perceptions and long standing practices that hinder the quest for dignity”.
