He was alleged to have tried to stop the intruder from getting access to the room which he shared with his friends who are all students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Thomas Agyapong, a resident of Ayigya, was said to be studying together with some friends in a house at Ayigya behind the Nwabiagya Rural Bank when the incident occurred.
In the ensuing struggle, he got shot in the throat by the intruder who absconded.
He was later rushed to the #KNUST hospital where he was pronounced dead a few minutes later.
The police are yet to make any arrest.
CONFIRMATION
Confirming the incident to the Graphic Online, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ransford Nsiah, said the deceased was working on a laptop belonging to one of the KNUST students when the intruders entered the house and tried to enter the room in which the deceased and his friends were occupying.
According to the police, at the time all other three occupants were asleep and the deceased tried to stop them from entering the room.
ASP Nsiah said during the struggle with the intruders, Agyapong was shot in the throat and to avoid being caught, he said, the intruders left the scene.
He said it was the gun shot that woke the other occupants of the room up who rushed him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
He said nothing was taken from the scene and not even the laptop he was working on was touched.
INVESTIGATION
ASP Nsiah said police investigations were underway and appealed to the public to assist them with information.
He said information on the incident was a bit scanty as none of the occupants saw the intruders and how many they were.
