Mahama doesn’t deserve 2nd term – Nana Addo

Mahama doesn’t deserve 2nd term – Nana Addo

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo, has said the Mahama administration does not deserve another term in office.

According to Nana Addo, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has done little to improve the lives of Ghanaians. Addressing a public forum in Accra, Nana Akufo Addo said there is a general call for change in the country. Citing the example of how Nigerians ditched Goodluck Jonathan and voted massively for Buhari, Nana Addo said that will also be Ghana’s story in the November polls.

“2016 marks the end of the second consecutive term of the NDC since 2009. The 2016 general election is a critical one for our country; critical not only because it signals the end of an incumbent party’s second term in office but even more critical in determining the future direction of our country and the well-being of our people.”

He said the November general elections bestow on Ghanaians the opportunity to stop the Mahama-government from further deteriorating the country’s chances and help the “sinking ship” to “change course.” The NPP flagbearer observed that “unemployment especially among the youth is widespread,” a situation his government will reverse.

“Macro-economic indicators are troubling, to say the least. Inflation is not persistent, upward trajectory, currently over 19% and our bank lending rate is well above 30%. The cost of utility particularly electricity poses a major if not insuperable challenge for the ordinary budget.

Mahama’s government answers to all these problems have been to roll out a so-called Green Book containing a so-called achievement. This book supposedly sets out a record of infrastructural projects, many of which have turned out to be artist’s impression and non-existent on the ground,” he added.

EC has a plan with the NDC - Nana Akomea

EC has a plan with the NDC - Nana Akomea
Communications Director - Nana Akomea
Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akomea says the Electoral Commission is scheming with the ruling National Democratic Congress, hence the Commission's decision not to delete National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card registrants.
Nana Akomea expressed worry over the EC's position on the Supreme Court ruling that the Commission should remove names of disqualified persons.

The Supreme Court ordered the Electoral Commission to delete from the register names of persons who don't have the qualification to be on the register together with minors and deceased persons.

But EC interpretation of the court order indicated that the court didn't order a removal of names of NHIS registrants from the electoral roll.

"For persons who registered with NHIA cards, such registrations were lawful at the time of registration, and the subsequent declaration of unconstitutionality in the earlier Abu Ramadan case does not automatically render them void.' Such a position according to the Supreme Court 'would have the effect of disenfranchising the persons affected. Such registrations should only be deleted by means of processes established under the law'," the statement said.

Speaking on Peace FM's kokrokoo,' the NPP Communications Director noted it appears the NDC and the EC are singing the same hymn so far as the registration of persons with NHIS card is concerned.

To him, the registration with NHIS card has always been the "plot" of the NDC, and the EC interpretation of the court order exposes the Commission and the ruling party.

“Electoral Commission of Ghana has a plan with the NDC. If you could recall, our brethren in the NDC said their understanding is we’ve not said they should delete Health Insurance registrants from it; during the time that the Supreme Court made their ruling. So, the position of the NDC is that the Supreme Court hasn’t said we should remove Health Insurance registrants... Barely two weeks after, the Electoral Commission says per their understanding, we haven’t said they should remove the Health Insurance registrants. It means the Electoral Commission is saying exactly what the NDC is saying regarding the Health Insurance card," he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.

Cameroon deports over 100 Ghanaian peacekeepers

John Kudalor, Inspector General of Police
The authorities in Cameroon have denied entry to over 100 Formed Police Unit (FPU) of Ghana Police assigned to peacekeeping duties in South Sudan, according to reliable reports reaching The General Telegraph.According to the reports, the over 100 police officers were arrested and deported by the Cameroonian officials on Wednesday on account of improper documentation.

Tension and frustration among members who were on the peacekeeping mission have reached its peak after they were allegedly deported by Cameroon on Wednesday.

The reports indicate that the over 100 police officers were stopped in Cameroon and grilled for over 4 hours before they were released.

It was also reported that some of the police officers who were on a chartered flight to Sudan for the peacekeeping were carrying AK47 and other equipment.

Sources within the Ghana Police Service say the frustrated police officers are angry at the way and manner the processes took place.

“We were due to Sudan for the peacekeeping mission. We were grilled for over 4 hours before we were deported back to our country. We believe that our officials did not do the proper documentations. The fact actually is that we could not go to South Sudan because we lack proper documentation period,” one angry police officer told this paper.

Director of Public Affairs of Ghana Police, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, when contacted confirmed the trip of his men to South Sudan on Wednesday but was unaware of their deportation.

He told this paper that, “I am not sure of the arrest and deportation. Our Formed Police Unit travelled to South Sudan, but I am not sure of the deportation,” he said.

However, deep sources within the intelligence agencies told this paper that the police were not arrested but were not given an opportunity to enter the country.

The source, however, confirmed that it was rather the officials of the Cameroon that denied Ghanaians entry.

The source said the flight did not land but immediately returned to Ghana.

“They were on a peacekeeping mission to Sudan, and when they were approaching Cameroon, Cameroon denied use of [their]

I won’t disappoint Ghanaians if elected – Nana Addo

Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo, says he will not disappoint Ghanaians should he emerge winner of the November polls. According to him, his party has the solution to Ghana’s problems, and must be given the chance to turn the fortunes of the nation around. The NPP has the view that Ghana has all it takes to succeed and better the lives of its citizens, but the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has not been able to achieve this and have instead led the country into a ditch.

Speaking at a gathering of chiefs and people of Anhwiase in the Western Region, Nana Addo said the NPP has what it takes to make Ghana better.

“I besiege you all to pray for me because the hardship that the country is about to face is unimaginable, but the NPP has the true solutions to these looming challenges. We have the solution to change the cause of the nation’s destiny and lift the masses out of misery.

“We have the solution to put food on the table, create jobs and comfort for all Ghanaians. I want you to have faith in me and my vision for the nation and I want to promise you that God willing when I get the presidential nod I will not disappoint you,” he added.

Ghana Police investigates female officer involved in a sex video

Ghana Police investigates female officer involved in a sex video
Supt. Cephas Arthur
The Ghana Police Service is investigating one of its female personnel whose sex video leaked and went viral on social media early this week.

Director of Public Affairs of the Service, Supt. Cephas Arthur confirmed the lady at the centre of the video that has been circulating on WhatsApp is indeed one of their officers, noting a service enquiry has commenced to establish if she has flouted any law.
“The police have set up an enquiry to investigate the issue, we will check if she has flouted any laws of Ghana or the Police Service, Supt Arthur told Onua FM's Christian Agyei Frimpong Friday.

He said the investigation would also seek to establish the source of the leak, saying "We will also investigate who circulated the video. if it was something she did for her private personal use and someone circulated it, then it’s a criminal matter, if she took those video herself, circulated it, we shall investigate all.”

The lady [name withheld], a Sergeant, who was stationed at the Sunyani Regional Police CID, was said to have been transferred to the Police CID Headquarters in Accra following the leak of the sex video.

Sources say the lady has fallen sick due to the incident and currently on admission at the Police Hospital in Accra.

She was said to have attempted suicide but this, Supt Arthur said, “I have not heard anything about what you are asking me, but I can tell you she is safe, alive, doing well and we have started our investigations”

The lady is seen in the video, which appeared to have been recorded with a webcam, naked in a room where she danced and made sexually teasing moves while she played with her body seductively.

Man arrested for threatening to blow up Italian Embassy

Man arrested for threatening to blow up Italian Embassy
The Police acted swiftly to arrest the man
There was drama at the Italian Embassy in Accra Friday morning as a young man threatened to blow up the Embassy, located on the Switchback Crescent, Cantonments.
The Counter Terrorism Unit of the Ghana Police Service however, acted swiftly and bundled him away before he could actualize his threat.

The unnamed young man, said to be a visa applicant, had stormed the Embassy with a gas cylinder and a lighter ready to torch the place.

Superintendent Raymond Aggrey Fynn, Head of the Counter Terrorism Unit who led a team to arrest the man, along with his family including his wife, son and brother, told Graphic Online that the suspect had earlier in the morning been reported to have hurled stones into the Embassy compound amidst threats to blow it up.

“We understand he had a misunderstanding with the Embassy officials. When we came here earlier after the stone-throwing reports, he had left, only for him to return with gas and fire to attempt to carry out his threat”, he told Graphic Online.

A brother of the suspect broke down in tears as police vehicles drove the family to the CID Unit at the Police Headquarters.

Eyewitnesses
By-standers who witnessed the drama claimed the man had complained repeatedly of the Embassy’s refusal to return his documents, including birth and marriage certificates of his wife who had been refused the visa.

Their young son, however, had been granted the visa.
Another claim was that the man’s frustration had stemmed from the Embassy’s endorsement of his wife’s travelling documents in ways that rendered them ‘useless’.

“But how do you give a child visa and refuse his mother?” quipped one witness, who added, “Does it make sense or they want the child to go and stay alone?”

Help the police
When calm had been restored, Superintendent Raymond Aggrey Fynn found it an opportunity to counsel other visa applicants and members of the public who had gathered at the scene on their immediate responsibilities, safety and security in matters of police operations.

He said the entire drama could have been avoided had members of the public been vigilant enough to at least alert the police when the man walked by them with the cylinder and lighter threatening destruction.

Again, he said, most of the people were gleefully watching the unfolding drama at close quarters even as the police deployed to quell the threat, thereby putting themselves in harm’s way and that in such developing situations, even the police could be victims.

He said in such a situation, everyone needed to move as far away as they could to avoid becoming victims.

Taiwan's First Female President Tsai Ing-wen Starts Sworn-In

Tsai Ing-wen official assumes office with promises of economic, political, and social reform.
Tsai Ing-wen of the Democratic Progressive Party officially became Taiwan’s first female head of state on Friday. Tsai and her vice president, Chen Chien-jen, took their oaths of office in a ceremony at the Presidential Office on Friday morning before Tsai took the stage to give her inaugural address, outlining her new government’s policies and priorities for Taiwan.

Tsai’s message to the country centered on two themes: unity and reform. She urged unity among Taiwan’s people to tackle the various challenges ahead – including an ambitious plan to overhaul Taiwan’s economy and advance political and judicial reform. “Let us leave behind the prejudices and conflicts of the past, and together fulfill the mission that the new era has entrusted to us,” Tsai said in her address.

“At this moment and as president, I declare to the citizens of this country that my administration will demonstrate resolve in spearheading this country’s reform, and will never back down.”

While outside observers tend to focus on the cross-strait relationship as the driving force of Taiwanese politics, Tsai’s DPP has been quite clear that it was elected largely due to voter discontent over a sluggish economy, not cross-strait affairs. In keeping with that theme, Tsai’s main focus in her widely anticipated speech was on the economy, and particularly pitched at young Taiwanese who see little hope for the future.

Tsai’s main economic initiative is to build a “New Model of Economic Development” for Taiwan “based on the core values of innovation, employment and equitable distribution.” Part of this, as Tsai has mentioned often in the past, will involve actively pursuing participation in bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as well as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Framework (RCEP). There were few details, however, on how to achieve the holy grail of a dynamic, innovative economy; South Korea, for example, has been aggressively seeking a similar economic transformation with little success to date.

Perhaps more important than policy prescriptions, however, were the themes of Tsai’s speech. The values her government seeks to define itself by – transparency, accountability, equality – were all underlined repeatedly throughout her remarks. Tsai announced a commitment to solving persistent issues, such as pension reform, using input from the public.” The new administration’s approach is for the government to lead and plan, while encouraging citizens to organize in communities,” Tsai explained.

On the social reform front, Tsai announced plans to establish a “Truth and Reconciliation Commission inside the Presidential Office,” which will produce a report on Taiwan’s history and make recommendations on transitional justice within the next three years. She also pledged to pay special attention to “issues concerning Taiwan’s indigenous peoples,” and indeed the performances that preceded her inaugural address paid special attention to Taiwan’s indigenous tribes. Both these topics were on display during a historically themed performance prior to Tsai’s speech, which depicted (among other episodes) the White Terror under Chiang Kai-shek’s government and acknowledged the displacement of indigenous tribes by Chinese settlers.

The issue in Tsai’s speech that received the loudest cheer from the surrounding crowd, however, was a promise to pursue judicial reform. “The general 13 sentiment is that the judicial system is not close to the people, and is not trusted by them,” she acknowledged. “It is unable to fight crime effectively, and has lost its function as the last line of defense for justice.” To address the issue, Tsai promised a “national congress on judicial issues” to be held in October.

On the issue analysts were watching most closely – cross-strait relations – Tsai said little that she hadn’t been said before. She pledged that her government will “work to maintain peace and stability in cross-strait relations,” and particularly emphasized her goal of creating “mechanisms for intensive and routine communications with all parties involved.” Tsai has repeatedly emphasized her willingness to continue the “status quo” of cross-strait relations; the question is whether Beijing will reciprocate.

Over the past months, officials from the Chinese Communist Party have repeatedly insisted that acceptance of the “1992 Consensus” (an agreement that there is one China, which allows both Taipei and Beijing to define “China” differently) is a necessary prerequisite to cross-strait relations. Tsai, however, has yet to embrace the 1992 Consensus. In her speech, Tsai acknowledged that in 1992 the two sides “arrived at various joint acknowledgements and understandings,” and listed the “historical fact” of the 1992 talks as one of the political foundations of current cross-strait relations. She stopped short of embracing the “1992 Consensus” specifically, however.

Tsai placed cross-strait relations in the context of Taiwan’s relations with the region, promising new outreach (especially economically) to ASEAN and India as part of her “New Southbound Policy.” She also outlined plans to increase values-based cooperation with fellow democracies (particularly the United States, Japan, and Europe), take part in global efforts to fight climate change, and increase trade cooperation with countries around the world. “Taiwan will be an indispensable partner for the international community,” Tsai proclaimed.

Tsai ended her speech with a return to her main theme: a plea for unity. She warned that polarization in Taiwan’s society, particularly the political sphere, meant that the country had “gradually lost its ability to solve problems.”

“The new government’s duty is to move Taiwan’s democracy forward to the next stage,” Tsai said. “[…] Before, democracy was a showdown between two opposing values. Now, democracy is a conversation between many diverse values.”

As Tsai acknowledged at the end of her speech, the hard work of reform – of governing – is just beginning. She has a high bar to clear, both based on her own political promises and the expectations of her supporters in Taiwan. And Tsai provided a hint of the long slog ahead when she urged young Taiwanese to “please give us some time.”

“Although I cannot give every young person a raise instantly, I can promise that the new administration will initiate actions immediately,” she said.

With the DPP now holding both the presidency and the Legislative Yuan for the first time in history, the pressure is on for Tsai to act both boldly and quickly, as she promised.

German squad target for terrorists at Euro 2016: police

Federal investigators have warned that the German national team could be the target of a terror attack at the European football championship this summer.According to a report by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), seen by tabloid Bild, specific teams at the tournament are in danger, including the German team.

“A successful attack on a team from one of the ‘crusader nations’ - to which Germany also belongs - would have a powerful symbolic effect,” the report states.

The European Championships are being held in France this year and kick off on June 10th, with the final to be held a month later, on July 10th.

Fears that the championship - expected to draw 1 million fans from across the continent - could be a target were set off by terror attacks in Paris in November which killed 130 people.

On the night of November 13th, suicide bombers tried and failed to penetrate the Stade de France, where a friendly match between France and Germany was going on.

Three suicide bombers blew themselves up outside the stadium, killing one person.

Days later Germany cancelled a friendly match in Hanover against the Netherlands after receiving tip-offs from foreign intelligence agencies that a terror attack was being planned there.

No arrests have ever been made in relation to the alleged plot.
But since then members of Die Mannschaft have always insisted they are unfazed by potential terrorist threats.

The BKA reports also states that France is a particular target of the Isis terrorist because of its military involvement in Mali and Syria, where it is currently involved in a bombing campaign on Isis targets, and its history of colonialism in North Africa.

Aircraft from the German Luftwaffe (air force) are also flying reconnaissance missions over Syria.

Particular areas of risk are “symbolically important or soft targets which would grab the attention of the media and cause large numbers of casualties,” the report states.

France has assured restive European fans that maximum security provisions are being made for the tournament.

Speaking in March, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said that "We cannot permanently raise what is already a very high level since January 2015,"

French MPs voted on Thursday to extend the country's state of emergency, introduced after November terror attacks, to cover the time of the tournament.

Donald Trump hits out at Hillary Clinton – accusing husband Bill of rape

Donald Trump hits out at Hillary Clinton – accusing husband Bill of rape

Republican presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump has hit out at Bill and Hillary Clinton, by accusing the former president of rape.

Trump, who has stepped up his attacks on the Democrat front runner's husband in recent weeks, mentioned women who accused Bill Clinton of sexual harassment in an interview with Fox News.In the interview with Sean Hannity, in which the host compared allegations of harassment made against Trump to those made against Clinton, Hannity said: "For example, I looked at The New York Times, are they going to interview Juanita Broaddrick? Are they going to interview Paula Jones? Are they going to interview Kathleen Willey?"

All of the women Hannity mentioned were those who alleged Clinton had made unwanted advances towards them.

"In one case, it's about exposure," Hannity said. "In another case, it's about groping and fondling and touching against a woman's will."

"And rape," Trump said. "And rape," Hannity repeated.

Trump added: "And big settlements, massive settlements, and lots of other things. And impeachment for lying... and losing your law licence."

Juanita Broaddrick accused Bill Clinton of raping her in a hotel room in Little Rock in 1978, going public with the allegations – which Clinton's attorney David Kendall denied on his behalf – in an interview with Dateline NBC in 1999.

During the current election campaign, Broaddrick has endorsed Donald Trump and has been a vocal opponent of the Clintons, responding on Twitter after Hillary Clinton tweeted a message about 'believing all abuse survivors".

Trump, who said the New York Times had made him out to be a harasser of women when he was not, also tweeted: "Amazed that Crooked Hillary can do a hit ad on me concerning women when her husband was the WORST abuser of women in US political history."

Trump told a rally of his supporters on 7 May that Hillary Clinton was an "enabler" and was responsible for her husband's affairs.

"She was a total enabler. Have you ever read what Hillary Clinton did to the women that Bill Clinton had affairs with? And they're going after me with women? Give me a break," he said.

In a separate rally, he reiterated his point, stating: ""Do you remember the famous, I did not have sex with that woman?'" Trump asked.

"And then a couple of months later, 'I'm guilty.' And [Hillary Clinton] is taking negative ads on me," he said.

Popularity with women voters has been a topic Clinton and Trump have previously clashed over, with Trump claiming Clinton was "playing the woman card" but was not popular with women, and Clinton hitting back with a women's card campaign.

She said at the time: "If fighting for women's healthcare and paid family leave and equal pay is playing the woman card, then deal me in."

Clinton has banked on the popular support for her husband and told a rally of supporters this week he was going to be "in charge of revitalising the economy".

Neither Clinton nor her husband have responded to Trump's comments, although New York Times reported a spokesperson for Clinton as saying: "Hillary Clinton doesn't care what he [Trump] says about her. She will continue to call him out for his outrageous positions and divisive comments."

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal shunted the spotlight away from his own future by claiming that it is more important for the club to win a trophy as they need silverware. The Dutchman is preparing his players for Saturday's FA Cup final at Crystal Palace at Wembley, which is a venue that he described as "the most prestigious temple of England."

Having missed out on a top-four finish in the Premier League on goal difference earlier in the week, he is under pressure to deliver silverware, which would end United's three-year wait for a trophy.

Speaking at his news conference on Thursday, Van Gaal warned that Palace will pose a threat from set pieces. That comment might have encouraged midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who will hope to return to the starting line-up, having completed his suspension in time.

Van Gaal said: "I think the interests of the club are much more important, and the interest of the fans is more important, than those of the manager.

"Of course, you have your own aims and that's one of the aims I have had always, so it's always exciting when you are so close, but close is not enough. You have to win it. A club like Manchester United needs silverware."

"When you win silverware, it's important for the players, because a qualification is not a title. A title is the FA Cup or championship, because they can look and hold the trophy, so that's an exciting moment also. We are playing in the most prestigious temple in England.

"Fellaini is not suspended. But you have to wait and see the line-up. If I say something about that, then [Palace manager] Alan Pardew knows the line-up. They have scored 29 of 56 goals out of set plays. It's a lot more than us."Louis van Gaal can end Man United's three-year wait for a trophy on Saturday.

Van Gaal has faced criticism for his style this season but he admitted that he would settle for grinding out a narrow win again on Saturday. He made reference to Liverpool's Europa League final defeat against Sevilla on Wednesday to highlight the futility of progressing to the last stage, then losing.

The United manager said: "Close is not enough you have to win it. Now, we can win something. You cannot predict a final, you have seen it yesterday, for example.

"Our starting point is to win well and score beautiful goals but, if we win 1-0, that is also enough. Winning is the most important thing in a final, otherwise you have nothing."

He said that he would not shy away from using youngsters again, explaining: "We need matches of this level because it's an education for the young players. You have to cope with that pressure. It is a step in their development."

General Advising Donald Trump Says Killing Terrorists’ Families Might Be OK

General Advising Donald Trump Says Killing Terrorists’ Families Might Be OK

A top military adviser to Donald Trump expressed qualified support for Trump’s proposal to kill terrorists’ families on Thursday, telling Al Jazeerathat it would depend on the “circumstances of the situation.”
The statement from Gen. Michael Flynn, former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency from 2012 to 2014, reignited a debate about whether the military in a Trump presidency could be counted on to refuse blatantly illegal orders.

CIA directors past and present have asserted that Trump’s proposal to bring back torture methods “a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding” was meaningless, because CIA officers would refuse to carry out such orders.

Trump insisted during a Republican debate in March that “they won’t refuse. They’re not going to refuse me. Believe me.”

Flynn, who was appointed by President Obama, is one of the few credentialed military officials in Trump’s inner circle. But when Al Jazeera’s Mehdi Hasan asked Flynn directly “Would you kill the family of a terror suspect, yes or no?” Flynn replied that he would have to “see what the circumstances of that situation was.” Watch an excerpt and the entire interview.

Hasan responded, astonished: “Are you kidding me? What circumstances would justify the killing of a family – a wife and a child?”

Flynn answered by weaving a hypothetical about a former ISIS commander using human shields: “The circumstances could be – it could be something like an Omar Al-Bagdadi, let’s say he’s still alive, and we find him in a place where its very difficult to get into, and he is actually using children to protect himself, what do we do? How do we actually go get him if killing him is better than capturing him?

Hasan pointed out that Flynn was describing “collateral damage,” not intentionally targeting children.

Flynn acknowledged that troops have a duty to disobey illegal orders, but refused to say whether he would, remarking only that “these are difficult political decisions…” and that “he would advise differently.”

During the interview, Flynn also defended his tweet that “fear of Muslims is rational:”

Flynn said “I’m not saying to be fearful of all Muslims,” telling Hasan, “otherwise you and I would be wrestling right now.”

Hasan cheekily responded “and you’d probably win, which is why I should be afraid of you.”

US adds ISIS in Yemen, Libya, Saudi to terror list

US adds ISIS in Yemen, Libya, Saudi to terror list

ISIS released still pictures purporting to show massive parade of their militants in the city of Sirte, Libya

Washington (CNN)The U.S. added ISIS affiliates from Libya, Saudi Arabia and Yemen to its list of designated terrorist organizations on Thursday.

The move means these groups are being formally listed as designated terrorist organizations, a reflection of the changing assessment of the threat they pose. In the past, U.S. officials have indicated that they saw the groups in Libya, Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia more as sympathizers than formal affiliates of the core militant group, which controls parts of Syria and Iraq.

The State Department, working with the Justice and Treasury departments, also placed the groups on a list of global terrorists that allows the Obama administration to sanction anyone who knowingly helps or provides material support to these groups -- freezing any property, bank accounts or other interests they might have in the U.S.

All three affiliates of the Sunni terrorist group have carried out deadly attacks in their countries. ISIS in Saudi Arabia has staged attacks on Shiite mosques in the Kingdom and in Kuwait, killing more than 50 people. ISIS in Yemen claimed responsibility for suicide bombings on mosques there that killed more than 120.

And ISIS in Libya, which has attacked on government and civilian targets, staged a highly publicized kidnapping and execution of 21 Egyptian Christians.

The announcement brings the total number of ISIS affiliates named as designated terrorist organizations to eight, including affiliates in Algeria, the Sinai, Syria, the Caucauses and Africa.

ISIS threatens global war with Israel

ISIS militant threatening Israel in Hebrew

Jewish state threatened by group’s advance toward its borders, Islamic State says.

Islamic State threatens Israel in an article in iael in an article in its weekly newsletter this week, saying that unlike Hamas, the “war on Israel will not be limited by geographical boundaries or by international norms.”
According to the article in the Al-Naba newsletter identified by the Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor of MEMRI (the Middle East Media Research Institute) and shared with The Jerusalem Post, Israel feels threatened by ISIS because of the “collapse” of neighboring states and the Sunni terrorist group’s advance toward the borders of the Jewish state.

For this reason, Israel has started to fight against Islamic State in Sinai and Syria, it says, adding that the entire world is now an arena for the fight against all the “polytheist combatants, including the Jews,” who are legitimate targets. Israel is using jets to attack Islamic State in Sinai, the article claims.

“The collapse of the Sykes-Picot statelets, which were tasked with protecting the Jewish state; the approach of ISIS mujahideen toward its borders; [Israel’s] fear of the spread of its [ISIS’s] methodology among the oppressed Muslims inside those borders [i.e. fear that ISIS ideology is spreading among Israeli Arabs]; and the manifest failure of the Crusader states who protect the Jews to win the battle against it [ISIS] – all these are factors that caused the Jewish state to not sit idly by in face of this danger,” it says.

Islamic State also says Israel is using drones and spies to collect intelligence against it, adding that this will lead to further Israeli “entanglement” with the group.

This war is not going to be like those waged by secular, nationalist or communist movements, or by those that “falsely attribute themselves to Islam [referring to Hamas], since those battles were fought within the framework of the international order, the article says.

However, it continues, Islamic State “rejects this ‘international order,’” and its war against its enemies “has no boundaries other than those which Allah prescribed on the Muslims in their jihad to make the polytheists submit to Islam’s rule – the entire world is an arena for its jihad; all the Muslims are potential soldiers in its army; and all polytheist combatants on earth, and the Jews among them, are legitimate targets for it.”

It continues, “Any threat its leaders [issue against] the Jews emanates from the [promise] from Allah that He will enable them to carry it out. As the [Islamic State of Iraq leader] Sheikh Abu Mus’ab al-Zarqawi said in the past, he and those that are with him fight in Iraq while their eyes are on Jerusalem.”

The article also claims that the group is more capable than others have been in the past of attacking Israel since it is closer to Israel.

However, notes the MEMRI report, the Islamic State ideology does not view Israel as its primary target, but rather as one to be fought later, after the organization conquers the Arab countries surrounding it.

“Let the Jews bomb with their planes, they are not harsher on us than the Crusaders’ planes and Allah enabled us to persevere [against] those.... With Allah’s permission they will be overpowered, and then they will be taken to hell,” the ISIS article concludes.

Sundowns coach Mosimane hints at Ghana interest

Exclusive: The South African coach is under contract until 2017 but reveals his admiration for the Black Stars and says he’d have no problem leading the West Africans in future

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he could be tempted by a move to manage Ghana in the future.

The 51-year-old is in his fourth season in charge of the Brazilians, having won the Premier Soccer League this term and gunning for a continental title.

Mosimane came out on top over a Ghanaian opposition when Sundowns defeated Medeama 3-1 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria during the first leg playoff of the Caf Confederation Cup, with the return fixture slated for May 18 in Ghana.

He believes it would be an honour to manage the big stars from Ghana when given the opportunity, with Avram Grant’s contract in its final year.

"It will be an honour to coach Ghana. Black Stars have big players and fortunately I know the players so maybe one day it would happen," Mosimane told Goal.

"But I don't know if they're willing to look at local and African coaches to takeover. It is not very easy but I know they gave my friend Kwesi Appiah the chance and in my opinion he did very well," he added.

Mosimane, before joining Sundowns in 2012, succeeded South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira after the 2010 World Cup, becoming the first man to represent the country as a player and coach.

Downs Finalising Preparations For CAF Tie

In their quest to achieve African glory in the CAF Confederation Cup, Mamelodi Sundowns are set to have their last training session in Ghana today, ahead of tomorrow’s game with Medeama SC.

Having won the Absa Premiership title and the Telkom Knockout in the domestic league this season, Downs are eying glory on the continent as well with the Confederation Cup, after last month’s exit from the prestigious CAF Champions League.

The Brazilians go into tomorrow’s game with a 3-1 advantage from the first leg game played at Lucas Moripe Stadium earlier this month.

According to Medeamaafmonline, Sundowns are scheduled to have their last training session at 3:00 pm today.

"Pitso Mosimane’s side will train at the Essipong Sports Statdium this afternoon as permitted by CAF ahead of the game tomorrow.

"Sundowns come into the game with a 3-1 advantage having capitalized on weak defending and loss of concentration in the space of seven minutes to score three goals against the Ghanaian side.

Medeama’s technical director Augustine Adotey however maintains the Mauve and Yellow side have what it takes to turn the game on its head and progress to the money zone of the CAF Confederation cup.

"The tie will come on tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Essipong Sports Stadium at 3:00PM."

Ghanaian goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey Out Until July

Ghanaian goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey

Ghanaian goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey is set to be out of action until July, ruling him out of the Black Stars’ 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius next month.

The 28-year-old Portland Timbers ‘keeper picked up a hand ligament injury on April 16 and was expected to be out for approximately a month.

However, Timbers coach Caleb Porter revealed on Monday that the Ghanaian will in fact be out until July, according to ESPNFC.com.

The complication to Kwarasey’s injury has ruled him out of Ghana’s AFCON qualifier in Mauritius – where a win will secure their place in Gabon 2017 – as well as a friendly against Guinea in France on May 28.

Kwarasey should be available again when the Black Stars complete their AFCON qualifying campaign in September with a home clash against Rwanda.

Mosimane: My Boys Are Ready For Medeama

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach

Speaking to the Ghanaian media, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane revealed that conceding a goal at home to Medeama Sports Club is a headache for his men.

The Brazilians' mentor was speaking in the West African country ahead of their crucial CAF Confederation Cup second leg playoff match on Wednesday.

The South African Absa Premiership champions defeated their Ghanaian counterparts 3-1 in Pretoria, and will now aim to wrap up the tie in Tarkwa to book a spot in the group stages of the competition.

"Medeama had a goal in South Africa and that is a great headache to us," Mosimane is quoted as saying by Ghanasoccernet website.

"That away goal is a great advantage for them. They will try to make good use of it in the second leg and that is a problem.

"If the first leg had ended without Medeama having a goal, it would have been different.

"It is difficult but my boys are ready for the job.”

It is also reported that Sundowns are scheduled to hold their last training session on Tuesday, at Essipong Sports Stadium.

The match is set to be a thriller as Medeama interim coach and technical director, Augustine Adotey, has announced that they are eager to send the Brazilians packing.

The clash will be staged at Sekondi-Takoradi Stadium on Wednesday, kicking-off at 17h00 CAT.

Obama on Trump: Don't Be an Idiot

Obama on Trump: Don't Be an Idiot
Obama on Trump: Don't Be an Idiot
In a blistering condemnation of Donald Trump’s political platform, President Obama told graduating seniors at Rutgers University to be smart and not dumb on Sunday, NPR reports.

“Class of 2016, let me be as clear as I can be: In politics and in life, ignorance is not a virtue,” said Obama, a remark “widely interpreted” as criticism of Trump.

Without naming the presumptive Republican nominee, Obama slammed a number of key Trump policies, including “building walls,” “disparaging Muslims” and “not knowing what you’re talking about.” From CBS News:

“Facts. Evidence. Reason. Logic. An understanding of science,” Mr. Obama said. “These are good things. These are qualities you want in people making policy. These are qualities you want to continue to cultivate in yourselves as citizens.”

“We traditionally have valued those things, but if you were listening to today’s political debate, you might wonder where this strain of anti-intellectualism came from,” he continued. “So class of 2016, let me be as clear as I can be: in politics and in life, ignorance is not a virtue. It’s not cool to not know what you’re talking about. That’s not keeping it real or telling it like it is. That’s not challenging political correctness, that’s just not knowing what you’re talking about. And yet we’ve become confused about this.”

“Have faith in democracy,” said Obama, acknowledging “it’s not always pretty” as a dark, faintly orange shadow presumably crept overhead.
