Exclusive: The South African coach is under contract until 2017 but reveals his admiration for the Black Stars and says he’d have no problem leading the West Africans in future
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he could be tempted by a move to manage Ghana in the future.
The 51-year-old is in his fourth season in charge of the Brazilians, having won the Premier Soccer League this term and gunning for a continental title.
Mosimane came out on top over a Ghanaian opposition when Sundowns defeated Medeama 3-1 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria during the first leg playoff of the Caf Confederation Cup, with the return fixture slated for May 18 in Ghana.
He believes it would be an honour to manage the big stars from Ghana when given the opportunity, with Avram Grant’s contract in its final year.
"It will be an honour to coach Ghana. Black Stars have big players and fortunately I know the players so maybe one day it would happen," Mosimane told Goal.
"But I don't know if they're willing to look at local and African coaches to takeover. It is not very easy but I know they gave my friend Kwesi Appiah the chance and in my opinion he did very well," he added.
Mosimane, before joining Sundowns in 2012, succeeded South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira after the 2010 World Cup, becoming the first man to represent the country as a player and coach.
