Manchester United will pay manager Louis van Gaal £5million, if he is sacked before his contract runs out next year.
According to the UK Times, the Dutchman is on an annual salary of £8m, but only £3.3m of that is guaranteed basic pay. The rest is based on performance-related, loyalty and image rights clauses.
United have been heavily linked with former Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho and if they decide to employ him this summer, the club must pay Van Gaal 66% of his salary.
Van Gaal would, however, lose out on more than £1million, if the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League next season. United are currently fifth in the Premier League, four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City with a game in hand.
They also play Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on May 21, with Van Gaal in line for a £400,000 bonus should United win.
