One person lost his life in a police swoop Thursday in the Cape Coast metropolis of the Central region.

The deceased Kwesi Sabado, 53, was allegedly assaulted by the police who raided Ntsin, a fishing community near the historic Cape Coast Castle.

The law enforcement agents were clamping down on drug peddlers in the area. Sabado was rounded up with some suspected drug peddlers at his drinking spot which is near the beach where the alleged drug peddlers trade.

He passed out at the Bakaano Police Station and was declared dead on arrival by doctors at the Cape Coast Metro Hospital, Starr News’ Kwaku Baah-Acheamfourreported.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Central Regional Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
Reports say some of the aggrieved neighbours from around the beach communities of Anaafo and Ntsin stormed the Bakaano police station where about 30 others were being held to attack the police.

For about 20 minutes, they pelted two policemen who stood guard in front of the station with stones before they were dispersed, the state-owned Daily Graphic reported.

The police have relocated 20 of the 37 suspects to different police cells and say they will make a statement on the swoop Friday.
