Accra Poly sweeps all the basketball awards

Accra Polytechnic’s Basketball team received honours for excellence in the Ghana Basketball Awards 2015. The team is recognized as ‘the best of all time’ in recent times among Tertiary Institutions in the Country and across the West African Sub-region for their immense contribution to Sports excellence.

This landmark achievement was attained after institution beating several schools from all sectors in various competitions and sweeping away the championship titles from the GHAPSA, UPAC and the WAPOGA Games.





The institution won most of the awards of the night from various categories of nominations which took place at the sports studio of TV3. These includes; Basketball Team of the Year, GHAPSA Games Male Champions and GHAPSA Games Female Champions.

The joy of the night was made complete for the institution when the premier Polytechnic’s Abdul Mutaleb Alhasan popularly known among funs as “Varanda” took home the Overall Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the year 2015, Romeo Enan Wilfred winning the Tertiary Player of the year and Brimah Lawal was also adjudged the Coach of the Year.

President of the Ghana Basketball Association, Mr. David Addo Ashong revealed that basketball is undoubtedly the fastest growing sport in Ghana currently

Strategy and Operations Director, NBA Africa, Mr. John Manyo Plange also said he is excited for Africa basketball especially the young talented men and women who distinguished themselves in this year’s Ghana Basketball awards. He noted that it’s fair to say that it’s been a fabulous season for the talented men and women.
The event was highly patronized by an entourage from Accra Polytechnic led by the Dean of Students Affairs, Mr. Steven Kudadze. Among other dignitaries who attended the event were representatives from the Ghana Basketball Association, Rite multimedia, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, TV3, British High Commission, Ministry of Youth and Sports and other tertiary institutions.
