He said as members of Council, one may have his opinion but in the case that someone brings an opinion that is better than yours, you may have to have the humility to sacrifice yours for theirs.
He described it in the words of Stephen Kovey as “synergy - not my way; not your way but the either way which might be better than each of our ways”.The one-day workshop was organized at Aqua Safari Resort, Ada in the Gangme-East District of the Greater Accra Region and was attended by all members.
The workshop was organized to refresh and alert members to their mandate and responsibilities as members of Council.
He charged members of Council to prepare adequately for Council meetings anytime they were due for one so they can ask appropriate questions while maintaining confidentiality.
He entreated participants to recognize the fact that while consensus building is necessary, there comes a time when the leader must take a decision while allowing discussion to go on.
While buttressing his point for greater unity among council members, Dr Effah told the participants that they “can never succeed while the Rector fails; you either succeed together or you fail together”.
Dr. Effah said should any member of Council dent the Council’s image, that person would have essentially dented his own image because they are also part of the system.
He said no one individual has the power of Council because the power they have is collective power that is better exercised with collective wisdom.
Council was also asked to publish major decisions taken at Council.
