A visionary leader hailed from Ghana formerly known as Gold Coast, founder and first prime minister of Ghana was Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

His early childhood begun at the western shores of Gold Coast where he started his education and this teaching career. Even though he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he was raised by his mother and had to work hard to get funds in order to further his studies abroad.

During his student life in abroad, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was a student activist and later organized a group of expatriate African Students building it into the African Students Association of America and Canada. He led the organization as president and encouraged his members to aspire for each colony to gain independence hence introducing the Pan-African strategy. Currently the association is the All Africa Students Union which is headquarter in Accra, Ghana.

Osagyefo sprouted the vision for African Unity and Self Independence and believed that a black man can mange his own affairs and must be free from the chains of colonial rule.

“ Revolution are brought about by men, by men who think as men of action and act as men of thought”
-Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

However, one must ponder over questions that not only awaken but confront us on the progress of African Unity.
-Is Africa truly united as one?
-Are African leaders working together to maintain a peaceful, united and sovereign states?
-What are we the youth doing to check our leaders when the tend to go astray?

Osagyefo’s vision still lives and his ideologies must continue. The youth of Africa in every national students union and the All Africa Students Union must arise and continue the ideologies of our great leader and foster unity among member states of Africa.

Today in Ghana, we celebrate Founders day not because he was our first leader but his selfless passion for African unity and sovereignty has brought us this far.

“ I am not an African because I was born in Africa but Africa was born in me”
-Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

God bless USAG
God bless All Africa Students Union
God bless mother Ghana and Africa
