We are so engrossed in our worldly pursuits that the remembrance of death does not occur to us. The Messenger of Allah(God) said, "The most intelligent person is the one who often remembers death. Constant remembrance of it prevents one from evil and sin and motivates him towards good morals.

“Remember often the destroyer of pleasures,” Sunan ibn Majah

Living your life in a good way is how you prepare for death. Remember what the Almighty said in Surah al Mulk: life and death is a test to see who is best in deeds.

Remembering death should work to soften your hard heart, remembering death should motivate you to leave bad habits and to do the best you can in living your true purpose in life which is to know, love and obey the Almighty.

It's said that whenever someone frequently remembers death that person is honoured with three things: quick repentance, contentment, and motivation for acts of worship; and whoever forgets death is punished with three things: delayed repentance, lack of contentment, and laziness in acts of worship.

Now ask yourself: are you often delaying your repentance and remaining unhappy with what you have? Do you lake motivation and are too lazy to pray? All of these are signs that you don’t remember death in a productive way.

Allah says: The day on which neither wealth nor sons will be of any use, except for whoever brings to God a sound heart. [Quran, 26:88-89]
