Catholic University holds 12th Congregation

Mr Justice Samuel Adje, Brong Ahafo Deputy Regional Minister at the weekend commended churches for their essential roles in the social, economic and spiritual development of the people.

He said the church deserves a great deal of commendation for the unique efforts and services to humanity in human resource development and provision of social amenities to enhance the lives of the people.

The Deputy Regional Minister was speaking at the 12th congregation and 20 matriculation of the Catholic University College of Ghana at Fiapre near Sunyani.

In all 480 students were enrolled and 996 graduated and were awarded with degrees and certificates.

Six hundred and sixty eight graduates received University of Ghana Bachelor degrees and 328 were also awarded with university of Cape Coast degrees.

He observed that the church has not limited it endeavours only to the spiritual aspect of human development but has over the years partnered with the state in the provision of development facilities such as school and hospitals and financial institutions.

He said the churches continue to play cardinal roles to support government in the discharged of its social responsibilities to the citizenry, he added.

Mr Adjei entreated the graduants to be good ambassadors of the institution in the society and also used the knowledge acquired to help in the building of the society.

Mr Anthony Bonnah Koomson, Acting Vice Chancellor of the university said the school has for the past 12 years enrolled a total of 5,131 students.

He said the school’s current enrolment is 3,409 and made up of 1888 males representing 55.3 per cent and 1,521 females representing 44.7 per cent.

He asked the students not to end their education with the first degree but should endeavour to pursue advance degrees to be able to prove to the world of the knowledge they have acquired.

He said society is not interested in “what you know but are interested in what you are”.
