After deciding to retire from international football only recently, Argentina and Barcelona star Lionel Messi is back in the fold, following some convincing from the country's manager Edgardo Bauza.

It did take a bit more than words, however, with Spanish publication Don Balon revealing the player's conditions behind his u-turn.

The player announced his return on Friday, stating that he did not want to be one of the problems affecting Argentinian football.

“I see many problems in Argentinian football and I don’t want to become another one," he claimed. "I want to help in every way I can.

“We have a lot to fix in Argentinian football but I want to help change it from the inside and not criticize it from the outside.

":Many things went through my head on the day of the final, and I seriously considered leaving, but I love my country too much.

“I want to thank everyone that wants me to continue playing for Argentina and I hope I can make them happy soon.”

As for the conditions, the Spanish magazine claims Messi asked that Gonzalo Higuain be given a reduced role, while Sergio Aguero and Paulo Dybala should be pushed to the fore as he considers them successors.

Sure enough, Bauza's first squad included the Barcelona man, but Higuain's name was nowhere to be found.

The South American country breathed a collective sigh of relief following Messi's change of heart. But the forward will need to take things a step forward and win something for his country, given all of the disappointment which forced his retirement in the first place.
