Samantha Jacquelinet, the ex-girlfriend of Manchester United superstar Anthony Martial, has hit out at the club's alleged lack of support in the aftermath of the couple's acrimonious split, The Sun reports.
Martial, 20, was accused by his former partner of cheating on her with a string of women after his highly-publicised £36m move to Manchester last summer. Ms. Jacquelinet, who gave birth to their daughter Peyton in June last year, blames Martial's new found fame, in the wake of his move, as the reason things fell apart.
The Frenchwoman has also blamed United for their part in the breakdown of her relationship, claiming the club's inaction over the whole affair has "ruined her life".
She said: “Everything changed [after the move]. Footballers in England are like kings. They have so much money and attention it’s like they live in a different world.
“He was thrust into the limelight and it all just exploded. Young girls were throwing themselves at him.”
She added: “I was told United was a family club but off the pitch he didn’t get any guidance. Manchester United have ruined my life."
Ms. Jacquelinet, who had been with Martial since he was 17, revealed former Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal handed out advice to his star forward to how best tackle the rumours of having an affair.
“Anthony said when he had turned to Van Gaal for advice after the story came out he said, ‘You came with her, you stay with her,’" she revealed. "Anthony didn’t get in trouble for bringing the club into disrepute. He was just told to sort it out.
“It is so different in the Premier League. In France players are expected to behave in a certain way but we were offered nothing. When Anthony found himself in trouble he didn’t get any help.”
