Couple Wed In Hospital After Motor Accident |
The definition of true love was recently witnessed in the Eastern part of Africa, Kenya precisely, as a couple exchanged marital vows in the hospital to which they were admitted following a ghastly motor accident.
According to a report in The Star, James Mwangi and Miriam Gakenia sustained severe injuries in an accident on Nyeri-Nairobi highway on Tuesday night, December 15, after they had gone to buy wedding items. Miriam, the bride-to-be sustained a right hip joint injury and a broken right arm while her groom, James, made it out with only his right hand injured.
Although James was treated and discharged, his wife-to-be Miriam was left bedridden following her severe injuries. Stunned at the her husband-to-be’s decision, Miriam had no other option than to get married to her beau at the Outspan hospital on Saturday, December 19.
Miriam had nurses as her bridesmaids and was escorted in her bed to her groom by the matron of the hospital. The lovebirds had difficulty wearing each other’s wedding bands as their hands were in casts but they exchanged their vows. The married couple also found it hard to sign their marriage certificate and share their wedding cake, but these paled in comparison to the exchange of vows at the emotional ceremony.
According to the reverend who conducted the wedding, it was the first of its kind in Kenya. “I have never conducted such a wedding. It shows [how] far love can go. It is a lesson in sticking with your vision regardless of hurdles, and eventually reaching your destination,” he said. Speaking after the wedding, James said: “The wedding had to go on.
We had prepared for six months. The devil was not going to get in the way. She would have become my wife even if she had lost her legs.” However, Miriam will remain at the hospital for six weeks while she recuperates. James and Miriam’s wedding comes just months after a British husband-to-be Tim Omer and his Polish bride Kinga were forced to move the ceremony and 90 guests to his hospital bed three hours after he came out of surgery.
