The President of Wenzhou University, Professor Li Xiaokun, has announced that the University has decided to set up a Campus in the Central Region of Ghana.

This is in line with the efforts of the Ghanaian government to liaise with both foreign and local universities to build new campuses across the country in order to expand access to good quality education.

This decision by the top Chinese University, according to its President, is a direct response to the request made by Ghana’s Deputy Ambassador to China, Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah, during a working visit to Wenzhou University.

On a courtesy call on the Deputy Ambassador in Beijing, Professor Xiaokun made it clear that the request made by the Deputy Ambassador has been granted by the university authorities.

As of the time scale for the actualisation of this massive project, Professor Xiaokun said "the university has lined up investors to undertake this project and will soon be talking to the Ministry of Education in Ghana through the Ghanaian Embassy in Beijing".

In line with this, the authorities of Wenzhou University will be visiting Ghana in November this year.

The Deputy Ambassador thanked Professor Xiaokun and the authorities of Wenzhou University for the quick response to his request and promised that the Embassy in Beijing will do everything humanly possible to assist.

He added that "it is our mandate here at the Embassy to pursue such laudable investments that fall within the policies of the current administration of Ghana led by President Mahama to expand access to good quality education in order to change lives and transform Ghana, and we here at the Embassy cannot thank Wenzhou University enough”.
