Students of University for Development Studies (UDS) are complaining of ‘killer tuition fees’ imposed on them by authorities.

In an interview with Ultimatefmonline.om, the Former Head of Intelligence Unit of the Executive Committee of Student Representative Councils (SRC) in Ghana Obeng Daniel fumed that management of UDS has proposed to charge students utility tariffs.

He revealed that management are currently locked up in a meeting over the proposed utility tariffs.

‘The management have always imposed killer tuition fees and other unapproved charges on our fellow students over there as if the UDS has now been converted into private institution,’ he said.

He indicated that students are intimidated when they complain about the situation.

‘Lecturers try to fail students who are courageous to voice out their problems,’ he said.

In a statement issued by the aggrieved students, it called on the school management to desist from abusing the constitution.

EVERY STUDENT MUST WEAR EITHER RED OR BLACK THIS VERY MORNING UNTIL THE MANAGEMENT OF UDS ACT SO SENSITIVE TO THE PLIGHT OF UDS STUDENTS TODAY

BARRISTER DANNY CHARGES EVERY TERTIARY STUDENT TO WEAR EITHER OR BLACK TODAY
…………………………………………………..

UDS, our sister public tertiary institution at the Northern sector is sinking gradually due to several NARCISSISTIC and DRACONIAN policies that the management have always imposed on our brothers and sisters pursuing their tertiary courses over there. Information reaching my ears depicts, that, the management have always imposed KILLER TUITION FEES and many unfounded charges on our fellow students over there as if UDS has now been converted into private institution.

Now, in ARTICLE 25(1) of the 1992 constitution stipulates, that; “ALL PERSONS SHALL HAVE EQUAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND FACILITIES WITHIN OUR EDUCATIONAL CIRCLES”.

Again, ARTICLE 25(1)C says that; “HIGHER EDUCATION SHALL BE MADE EQUALLY ACCESSIBLE TO ALL, ON THE BASIS OF CAPACITY BY EVERY APPROPRIATE MEANS, AND IN PARTICULAR, BY PROGRESSIVE INTRODUCTION OF FREE EDUCATION”.

With this, I would like to use this medium to ask the following questions; Is UDS now a private institution?
Should the management be allowed to continue to abuse the constitution of Ghana by means of those KILLER TUITION FEES?

Are they ready to hear the voice of our brothers and sisters who are taking their tertiary education over there?

Is higher education now a bane to the development of Ghana?

To wit’ or brut force; today marks the day of TUITION between our fellow STUDENTS in UDS and that of their management, and I’m calling on all and sundry to wear either RED OR BLACK this very morning till we hear that the management have satisfied the LEGAL rudiments stipulated in our 1992 constitution in ARTICLE 25(1) to subsection C.

Fellow students, let us all rise and fight against any unlawful means to impose any KILLER TUITION FEES on our brothers and sisters in UDS. Again, I call on NUGS, USAG and the MEDIA to wake up right away to help our brothers and sisters to be EXCULPATED from these unlawful cacophonies.

UDS IS NOT A PRIVATE INSTITUTION, HENCE THE MANAGEMENT MUST GET IT RIGHT

Thank you
