President Muahmmadu Buhari has said that the era of making easy money has gone for good in the country.
The President made the declaration yesterday in Zamfara while commissioning the 75-kilometre Wanke- Danjigba-Kucheri-Kigama-Bilbis road.
He also described the current economic hardship in the country as a passing phase that the nation would soon overcome.
Buhari gave the commitment that his administration would enthrone good governance through a vigorous prosecution of the ongoing war against corruption which he said had retarded the growth of the country.
While noting that the administration had no intention of humiliating or disgracing anybody, he made it clear that it would not be stopped from recovering all looted funds which he said would be put to public use.
The President, who recalled that change agenda was at the core of his electioneering campaign in 2015, also called on the people of the state and Nigerians in general to join his administration in ensuring that the change desired was well delivered.
“As the people of the state are aware, the change agenda was central issue of our 2015 electioneering campaign. You have all agreed to join me and work as agents of change. The challenge before all of us therefore is translating the change into reality.”
According to him, the desired change could not take place without the culture of accountability and good governance.
The President noted that the security situation in the country was improving, not only in the north east, but all over the country, adding that he was confident that the macroeconomic policies as well as the monetary policies being implemented by the CBN will lead to the revitalization of the industries and steady growth in significant sectors of the economy.
He however, pointed out that the commitment to secure the country has already started yielding results , noting that in the first time in the history of Boko Haram insurgency in the north east, seven years ago, the people of Borno state celebrated this year’s the Eid-el-Fitri with ease, devoid of any security barricades.
Buhari reiterated his government’s determination to deal decisively with any threat to security of the nation from any quarters.
His words: “Part of the reasons that I’m personally here to flag off the military operations aimed at routing out the menace of cattle rustling and armed bandits, not only in the state, but in the entire axis of north west.”
Buhari said he had listened to the litany of requests put forward by the governor and gave an assurance that he would carefully study them and respond appropriately especially with the realisation of the potentials of the state, most especially in agriculture, lives stock and solid minerals.
Host governor, Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari said the construction of the roads was part of the state government’s efforts to open up the rural areas to enable farmers transport their farm produce to the urban centres and also to create gainful employments to the teeming youths of the state.
