Lance Hart shot to death 50-year-old wife Claire and his daughter Charlotte, 19, outside their local leisure centre in Spalding, Lincolnshire.
Officers and paramedics battled to save the two women who they found gravely injured at around 9am on Tuesday. One source claims that the motivation behind the shooting came from Mr Hart's knowledge that his marriage was soon to end.
They told the Daily Mail: "Claire had left him. "I don't know what the issues were in their marriage, but I can't understand why he had to kill his daughter as well."
Speaking to journalists outside Spalding police station, Temporary Superintendent Paul Timmins said officers found a dead man and two gravely injured women when they were called to the scene at around 9am.
He said: "CPR was attempted on both women and I am sad to report that both women have died. We believe a shotgun was involved in the incident and are currently investigating the circumstances of this tragic incident.
"We confirm that we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this tragedy. I can also confirm that no shots were fired by police and that this is not being treated as a terrorist incident.
