I’m still at post – NUGS president insists

Michael Paa-Quecy Adu, the embattled President of National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), whose eligibility is being challenged, has dismissed the ruling of the court that asked him to step aside. A Madina District Magistrate Court on November 26 ordered Mr. Adu to stay off the post until a case challenging his eligibility is resolved.

The court presided over by His Worship, Richard D. Anku in its ruling on November 26 ordered that Mr. Adu should not hold or transact any business in the name of NUGS until a final determination on the matter is made.
“It is hereby ordered that the defendant whether by himself, his agents, assigns privies and any other person claiming by or through him hereby restrained from describing or holding himself as or acting conveying any meeting in the name of the plaintiffs or transacting any or purporting to act as a National Executive Member of NUGS and from in any manner interfering with the said National Executive Members of NUGS including the convening of meetings and/or transacting any business in the name and under the authority of the plaintiff/applicant pending the final hearing and determination of this suit or until otherwise ordered,” the court added.
I’ve not been served But the beleaguered NUGS President in a Citi News interview insisted that he has not been served with any court notice and hence cannot step aside.
“I have not been served any injunction, I only saw on WhatsApp people circulating messages that I have been asked to step aside.”
Suspended executives peddling falsehood Mr. Adu again said some of the NUGS executives including Ferdinand Boakye Boateng who dragged him to court, have been suspended from the union.

He also accused them of peddling falsehood about him.
“Last week Saturday at a NUGS Central Committee Meeting, members massively supported a motion to suspend the three officers who are behind the claims that I have been asked to step aside. Therefore whoever deals with these suspended officers does so at their own peril,” he added.
Mr. Paa Quecy Adu stated that he remains “focused on exercising the mandate Ghanaian students overwhelmingly” gave him at the last NUGS Congress and would not be distracted by the actions of “these suspended executives.” Genesis of NUGS’ brouhaha Mr. Adu contested for the NUGS presidency on several occasions but was disqualified because per the constitution, of the Union, any person vying for such a position must be a full-time student; a move he has fiercely contended. He was in disqualified again in 2015 for the same reason but the unions judicial committee overturned the verdict and he was finally elected as NUGS President. The decision angered some executives of the union including Ferdinand Boakye Boateng and Paul Kwasi Gyan who dragged the issue to court.
