Former President John Rawlings has stated that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akufo-Addo is neither tribalistic nor ethnocentric. In a statement to condemn the tribal comments made by the former Transport minister Dzifa Attivor, the former military leader said tribalism cannot be counted as one of the weaknesses of Nana Addo. “Before making such unfortunate statements let’s remove the logs in our own eyes.

I do not subscribe to the politics of ethnic bias and never have. While I may not be a fan of the NPP, I know their presidential candidate is not tribalistic or ethnocentric. Whatever Nana Addo’s shortcomings, tribalism is not one of them,” Rawlings stated.

Attivor has come under fire for asking voltarians to retain the NDC in power in order to prevent herself and other NDC bigwigs from the region from going to jail under an NPP government. “When the NPP came to power in 2001, a lot of our people were sent to prison; Victor Selormey, Dan Abordakpui, and so on, was imprisoned.

Was it because no other persons committed a crime in Ghana? But it was only Ewes that they jailed. So I am pleading with you to work hard and deliver the 120 thousand vote target for the party in the constituency,” she said. The Peace Council, among many other Ghanaians, have condemned the remarks.
