10) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)

Founded in 1955, the University of Nigeria is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria. It is modeled upon the American educational system. The university has four campuses.


9) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta
Established in January 1988, the Federal University of Agriculture is located in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. It is one of the three universities of agriculture in Nigeria. Since inception, the university has had three chancellors.




8) University of Benin

The University of Benin was established in 1970. It is one of Nigeria’s major universities. Educator Mbachan Collins Okwen, actor Oladipo Agboluaje and Professor Felix E. Okiemen are among the alumni of the university.



7) Federal University of Technology, Minna

FUTMINNA is a federal government established post-secondary educational institution located in Minna, Nigeria. Founded in 1983, the university specializes in technological education. It has eight schools.

4) University of Ibadan

The University of Ibadan is the oldest university in Nigeria. It is located eight kilometers from the center of Ibadan, a major city in Western Nigeria. Besides the well-known College of Medicine, the university has other faculties like science, arts, agriculture and forestry, education, social sciences, technology, veterinary medicine, public health, law and dentistry.


3) Obafemi Awolowo University

Obafemi Awolowo University is owned and operated by the Government of Nigeria. The university was established in 1962. It is located in Osun, Nigeria, and has around 35,000 students. This university was the brainchild of Obafemi Awolowo, first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria.

Popularly known as Unilag, the University of Lagos is a federal government university located in Lagos State, southwestern Nigeria. Established in 1962, the university has around 45,000 students. Its motto is “In deed and in truth.” The main campus is located at Akoko, Yaba.

Also known as Unilorin, the University of Ilorin was established by a decree of the Federal Military Government in 1975. Located in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, this university was ranked as the best in Nigeria by 4icu in August 2014. It is located about 300 km from Lagos, and around 500 km from Abuja, Nigeria’s administrative capital. It serves more than 20,000 students. There are 15 faculties and more than 60 academic departments in the university.
