Police in Ghana have commenced investigation into alleged cases of fraud, impersonation and perjury levelled against some presidential candidates.
This followed complaint lodged by the Electoral Commission against thirteen disqualified presidential candidates.
So far six of the candidates have turned themselves in to the police for questioning.
Those who have reported to the police include Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Mr. Henry Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Mr. Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC), Mr. Kwabena Adjei of the Reform Patriotic Democrats (RPD) Mr. Kofi Akpalu of the Independent People’s Party (IPP) and Nana Agyenim Boateng of the United Front Party (UFP).
Seven disqualified aspirants, including former first lady, Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings were yet to report to the police at the time of filing this report.
The Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Mr. Prosper Kwame Agblor said those who reported to the police were granted self recognisance bail, even as investigations were ongoing.
Commenting on the fate of the politicians, Agblor hinted that they were likely to be prosecuted if found liable after investigation.
