The National Coordinator of the Coalition on the Right of a Child, Barimah Amankwah, has called on the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service and other stakeholders to support the fight against teenage boys who are being married off to older women.

It is understood that some teenage boys especially within the coastal areas are being married off to older women so they can be cared for.

Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show, Barimah Amankwah called on the coastal communities, DOVVSU amongst others to keep a database of all children within the community to keep track of them.

“I will expect the coastal communities with the assistance of departments of social developments and DOVVSU amongst others to try and assist the community by having database of the children within the community.

“Having a database means they will have a record of every child that comes on board they will know.

“I think the issue goes beyond the children and that parents ought to be responsible and ensure that they are taking good care of their children.

“I would want to stress that the police monitoring should be intensified in the coastal areas”.
