The Islamic University College, Ghana (IUCG) is, this year, celebrating its 15th anniversary, the climax of which is the 12th Graduation ceremony of the University College.

Accordingly, the Management of IUCG paid a courtesy call on the first Registrar of the University College, Alhaji Abdul Rahim Gbadamosi at his North Kaneshie residence on Sunday, April 17, 2016. The visit was to, among other things, invite him to grace the occasion and to inform him of Management’s decision to confer on him a special award for his invaluable role in the establishment of the University College.

“This decision to bestow on you the award” according to Dr. Mohsen Maarefi, “is in recognition of the solid foundation you helped lay for the establishment of the University College as well as your exemplary leadership which has helped the IUCG to triumph.”

Alhaji Abdul Rahim Gbadamosi for his part commended the gesture, adding, there are others who have also helped in this success story. According to him, the likes of Sheikh Seebaway Zakaria and Alhaji Abdallah Azondow have contributed immensely towards ensuring that the once dream of establishing the University College came to fruition.

Early on, the astute educationist lauded the effort of Dr. Abdul Majid Hakim Ellahi, the founding president of the IUCG for his vision to establish the institution, describing him as a visionary, courageous and determined person.

Nana Dr. Kobena G. Erbynn in his concluding remarks informed Alhaji Gbadamosi about other dignitaries (the Natioanal Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu and the Chairman of the IUCG Council, Dr. Abdul Majid Hakim Ellahi) on whom the special awards would be conferred.

The IUCG delegation was made of Dr. Mohsen Maarefi, IUCG President; Nana Dr. Kobena G. Erbynn, Vice President (Academic Affairs); and Mr. Ibrahim Sumaila Dankwabea, Assistant Public Relations Officer. The officials had a productive discussion, with both parties hoping to rekindle their relationship and cooperation.

IUCG, the first Islamic University College in sub-Saharan Africa started operating in April 2001 with a single program (BA Religious Studies). Currently, it runs eight (8) programs with preparations far advanced for expansion of the existing programs and introducing new ones.

In celebrating this milestone, a week-long series of events have been lined up; starting from Monday April 18 to Saturday April 23 with the Graduation ceremony at the climax. The Anniversary celebration is under the theme: “ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND MORAL UPRIGHTNESS: 15 YEARS OF IUCG’S CONTRIBUTION TO THE NATION with Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana as the Special Guest of Honour.
