Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday called on his country and Ghana to deepen strategic mutual trust and enhance mutually beneficial cooperation.

Xi urged the two sides to firmly support each other and safeguard their common interests during a meeting here with his Ghanaian counterpart John Dramani Mahama ahead of a China-Africa cooperation summit.

The two countries, he said, have achieved fruitful results in all fields of cooperation since they established diplomatic ties 55 years ago, adding that the Chinese side stands ready to translate the traditional friendship into development impetus so as to better serve the two peoples.

On cooperation of mutual benefits, the Chinese president noted that his country would encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest in Ghana and participate in its infrastructure construction, including power, telecommunication, ports and roads.

Xi also called for expanded exchanges in such areas as aviation, mineral resources, agriculture and fishery, as well as enhanced cooperation in security and people-to-people exchanges.

For his part, Mahama said his country appreciates China's long-term assistance and support, and stands ready to expand bilateral cooperation in infrastructure and other areas.

He hailed China's solidarity with Africa, saying that China always attaches great importance to Africa and provides positive support to developing countries in international affairs.

Xi stays in South Africa on Dec. 2-5 to serve as co-chair of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and for his second state visit to the country.
