Gregory Afoko, is alleged to have poured acid on Alhaji Adams Mahama
A seven member jury has been empanelled for the trial of Gregory Afoko, the alleged murderer of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adams Mahama.

The trial will begin at the High Court on the 19th of this month.

The late NPP Chairman, Adams Mahama died last May following an acid attack whiles entering his home. Afoko was arrested shortly after the incident.

It was alleged that the deceased mentioned his name as his attacker before his death. Afoko has since been in custody.

He rejected three of the jury members who were accordingly replaced.

Chief State Attorney, Matthew Amponsah told the court that fifteen prosecution witnesses will be called. He said the State is ready to start the trial.

Counsel for the accused, Israel Ackah told the jury not to be swayed by the facts presented by the prosecution which he said, are based on mere speculation and rumours unsubstantiated.

Mr Ackah further stated that the facts before the court do not link his client to the crime.

The lawyer said his client is innocent and no amount of concocted stories should mislead the jury to pronounce an unfortunate judgement after the trial.

Afoko has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and murder.
