| Accra Polytechnic: Assess yourself using Polytechnic ACT |
Referring to the Polytechnic Act, Dr. Effah said it was the responsibility of Council to keep and manage records of account of the Polytechnic and not that of any individual.
He said it was not the place of Council to constantly run to government anytime there was a problem as that will amount to subtle incompetence.
He said there should be no pursuit of what he called “hidden goals or agenda” among members of Council.
He said every member of Council needs to carry along fliers of the institution that detail out what the needs of the Polytechnic are so that they can make adequate case and link the Polytechnic to resources required to manage the Polytechnic.
Dr. Effah urged Council to constantly hunt for talents wherever they may find themselves because what a 21st Century tertiary institution needs is an assembly of talents.
“Council must give its support to every group and consider their views and must not turn their backs to any group”, he added.
He said even though in the past it was teachers and lecturers, who made up educational institutions, everybody is needed to make such institutions work, hence the importance of non-academic staff.
He described the 21st century academic environment in the words of Grant Morrison as a “multiversity” – a place of different talents.
He stressed the need to communicate with one voice on the most difficult subjects while suggesting that a press release is the most effective tool to ensure that different interpretations are not given to official responses.
Also present at the workshop was the Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon. Enoch Teye Mensah.
