A four-member delegation from the University of Electronic Science and Technology (UEST) in China has paid an institutional visit to Kumasi Polytechnic to further cement the already existing collaboration between UEST and Kumasi Polytechnic. The Chinese delegation was led by Prof. Di Aiying, the Director of International Cooperation and Exchange. The other members of the delegation were Prof. Qin Zhiguang, Dean of School of Software and Information Engineering, Mr. Yu Mei, Deputy of Teaching Affairs Department and Ms Lin Min, Head of Studies.

The reasons for their visit were to reinforce the relationship between Kumasi Polytechnic and UEST; sign a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UEST and K’Poly; discuss the detail of the 1+3 and other degree programmes as well as their related financial commitments and recruitment criteria. The visit was also meant to meet the UEST’s alumni in the Polytechnic and also discuss in detail the 2016 scholarship opportunity offered the Polytechnic. In his welcome address, the Rector of the Polytechnic Prof. N.N.N Nsowa-Nuamah underscored the enormous contributions UEST has made to the staff development of the Polytechnic and further mentioned that the Chinese University has been one of the key institutions that continue to support the Polytechnic with their solid training which always make their products very useful to the Polytechnic. He said, given the strategic location of the UEST which is the electronic hub of China, the Polytechnic’s future engineering students stand to gain from the renewal of the MoU between the two institutions.

The leader of the Chinese delegation Prof. Di Aiying on her part thanked the Polytechnic for the nice reception accorded her team and commended the Polytechnic for the giant strides it is making in the Polytechnic education in Ghana. She reiterated the fact that UEST is located at Chengdu, which is regarded as the Electronic City of China given the fact that the city has most of the popular electronic companies in the world such as Samsung, Panasonic, Nokia etc. located there. Prof. Di Aiying said such a situation offers great opportunity to Engineering students from UEST to benefit from the advanced technology of these companies which future Kumasi Polytechnic students stand to benefit as well. She intimated that the various areas of collaboration between the two institutions to be considered include programmes such as 1+2 Masters’ programme for HND holders, 1+1 as well as 3+1+2 Masters’ programmes.
