| Tips for a perfect smokey eye makeup |
The smokey eye may be the sexiest eye makeup look. It is always nice to have a neat, perfectly applied eye shadow, but there is something funky about that smudgy look from a good smokey eye. The smokey eye is sultry, alluring and enigmatic. It is dark and mysterious, there are no hard lines and it blends into nothingness. When it is done right, it can make you look like a million dollar celebrity. But the smokey eye can be a little intimidating.
So, below are tips to get that irresistible and alluring ‘black eyes’ that will make you outstanding in a gathering.
Getting your eyes ready
Begin by applying a light shade of concealer to the under eye area and all over the top lid. Your mineral makeup foundation is a great concealer for this step and prepares your eyes for the eye shadow that you are going to apply. Apply eye cream. Allow it to absorb for a few minutes. At this time, you can apply a primer, this will help your makeup glide on and stay crease-free. Pat a generous amount of loose translucent powder under the eyes. Your eye shadow will sprinkle down on top of the powder.
Use the liner
First, line both the top and bottom rims with an eye pencil, paying close attention to the lash line itself. If you have small eyes, apply liner starting from the middle of the under eye to the outside of the eye. If your eyes are large feel free to line from corner to corner. Line eyes with a dark pencil, gel, or cream liner, something you can smudge. If you are using a gel or cream out of a pot, use an angled eyeliner brush.
The liner should be thinner towards the inner corner of the eye and gradually increase in thickness towards the outer edge. Line the lower inner rim. Don’t apply too much liner close to the tear duct, it will goop up and you will end up with black eye boogers.
Add eye shadow
With a small eye shadow brush or a q-tip, soften the edges of the eye pencil line. Apply a dark shadow using a sponge-tip applicator, smudge brush or a q-tip directly over the penciled area and smudge. (If you like you can use your finger tip.)
The shadow helps to set and soften the look. Use an eye shadow that is in the same colour family as the eye shadow on your lid, but lighter. Apply it above your lid, on the outer edge of your crease. Then, using a loose blending brush, blend the shadow in a circular motion. Blend the crease shade slightly up and inward.
Next, apply a lighter shadow in a neutral tone with a larger eye shadow brush, you can also use the wet/dry brush. Encircle the entire eye area, be sure to soften and graduate outward for that perfect blended look.
Curl your lashes
Creating a smokey eye isn’t just all about eye shadow, it is the overall look. So, while you want to do a precise job of applying the right eye shadow in the right places, you also want to pay attention to your lashes. Curling your eyelashes will help open up your eyes and really make them stand out.
Apply mascara
After curling your lashes, apply a generous coat of mascara. Some people say that waterproof mascara hold curl better so that is always an option. However, some waterproof mascara formulas can be a bit drying on the lashes so it is not the best idea to use a waterproof formula daily. But for special occasions, why not?
Cleaning up the ‘territory’
Brush away any shadow that has fallen below the eye with a fluffy brush and clean up areas that have smeared with a q-tip. If you have trouble getting rid of fallout from eye shadow, you can try using a scotch tape to pick up any fallout without smudging your makeup.
If you want a more dramatic look, add more shadow and mascara. If you are looking for the most dramatic effect be sure to curl those lashes and apply two-three coats of black mascara.
If you want your eyes to look larger, pull your liner upward when lining your bottom lashes instead of out from the top Going for a classic smokey eye look, lightly line lips with a natural colour and add some sheer colour in peach, caramel, or barely there pink.
You might try the nude look on the lips with your smokey eyes. If you want to add more drama to your look, line your lips with a darker liner and fill it in with a deep colour.
Both, the nude lip and the deep dark pout are very ‘it’ this season. So, it is up to you to decide which look is better for you. Don’t forget to put some natural looking blush on your cheeks. It will add colour to your complexion.
Finally, finish your look by defining your brows. A strong eye look desperately needs a defined brow , as your makeup won’t look complete without it.
