| Jayee University Prepares Students for Digital Migration |
In addition, the introduction of an online television station is underway to augment facilities for practicals in communication studies at the college.
The facilities are part of effects by the college to enhance the quality of teaching, and to enable the students to gain more practical knowledge to build their careers.
Mr. John Emmanuel Donkoh, President of the University, who announced the initiatives at the seventh congregation of the university in Accra on Saturday, said the establishment of the online stations was to adequately prepare students as the nation migrates from analog to digital broadcasting.
He said the university anticipated that Ghana’s full transition to digital broadcasting, as part of global requirements, was expected to increase the demand for well trained journalists hence the need to prepare students ahead.
“We are also concerned about difficulties graduates face in securing employment. Whereas the prospects appear promising for our graduating students, insistence on working experience continues to deny majority of them the chance to employment,” he said.
“We hope industries would help to address this challenge to ensure that human resource training efforts do not go to waste,” he added.
However, he said though the effective collaboration with the communication industry, opportunities have been created for students to do mandatory internship as part of assessment for the diploma and degree programmes, stressing that the move has helped students to have a practical feel on what pertained in the industry.
Professor Mawutor Avoke, Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, the mentor of the college, noted that the University of Education was committed to assist JUC to consolidate the high academic standards achieved, and to attain autonomy as a fully fledged university.
“The University of Education is committed to making an impact on the country’s educational system and I assure you of our continued support for JUC as we nurture it to excel.” He said.
The Chairman of the Governing Council of JUC, Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, urged the graduates to use the knowledge acquired to improve themselves and become good ambassadors of the university.
A total of 364 students graduated with various degrees and diplomas in various programmes.
