Suspended Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko, says he is still the substantive chairman of the Party and “not a suspended chairman” of the NPP. Even so, he is not sure if he will vote for the party’s flag-bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2016 polls.

To him, his vote is his secret, it’s up to me and my God who I will vote for, he said.

Speaking on UTV, the embattled suspended chairman argued that Nana is unconstitutional and under no circumstance will he join his campaign team.

It will be very difficult to join Nana Addo’s campaign. Under no circumstances will I do that. I will never risk my life to campaign for a leader who spearheaded my ‘unconstitutional’ suspension in a party legally and constitutionally voted for me .

He also suggested that suspended General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, will also not campaign for the party. This, he said will send a blaring message to some high profile members of the party which will further deepen the cracks within the NPP.

What is going on at the party’s head office won’t allow me to join his [Nana Addo] campaign. And I know Kwabena Agyepong will do same. We can’t risk our lives,

Afoko was suspended in October 2015 after the party’s disciplinary committee upheld a letter from the National Council of Elders of the party requesting that Mr. Afoko be suspended until after the 2016 election.

He has said that there are factions in the party and he belongs to the Kufour faction. Afoko was accused of breaching the party’s rules and regulations in the matter of an alleged secret account managed by some party executives including now acting chairman Freddy Blay. Nyaho Tamaklo, one of the founding fathers, also came out earlier to say that Nana Addo is unconstitutional.
