This weekend’s league game between league leaders, Wa All Stars and third-placed Dreams FC arguably stands out as the most attractive game of the weekend but 13th-placed Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s encounter with ninth-placed Berekum Chelsea may steal the limelight for many reasons.
Unlike Wa All Stars and Dreams FC who have enjoyed a good start in the Premier League, the Porcupine Warriors are still chasing their first victory in the competition despite their huge reputation as 22-time league champions, reinforced by an impressive off season form.

Nonetheless, Coach David Duncan’s side have struggled to find their feet after three games and amassed only two points from a possible nine, following an opening week loss to WAFA and two straight draws at home against Medeama and AshantiGold.

On another hand, former champions Chelsea are gradually warming themselves into the league, and with the Golden City Park looking a potential banana peel for Kotoko, Sunday’s game would prove to be another tough test for both sides.

In the last 14 clashes between the two sides, the Porcupine Warriors can boost six victories over their rivals with two of them happening at the backyard of Chelsea. Only four victories have gone Chelsea’s way with the rest ending in a draw.

But the host would be motivated by the fact that Coach Duncan’s side have not won at the Golden City Park in their most recent fixtures and their last victory over Chelsea dated back to October 2013 when they run away 2-1 winners at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

Elsewhere, Accra Hearts of Oak would seek to add Bechem United to their casualties when they play at the Accra Sports Stadium, while a difficult game awaits New Edubiase United when they travel to play Inter Allies at the Tema Stadium this afternoon.

Sekondi Hasaacas would welcome Ashgold to the Essipong stadium, while the game between Aduana Stars and WAFA would be a cracker at the Anane Boateng stadium at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

Techiman City will test the strength of Liberty Professionals at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park.

The clash between Medeama SC and Ebusua Dwarfs has been postponed because of Medeama’s CAF Confederation Cup tie against Libyan side Al Ittihad Tripoli in Libya on Sunday.
