A Chinese man has finally been reunited with his mother, 25 years after he was abducted as a toddler by human traffickers.

Song Yangzhi, now 28 and known to his biological family as ‘Zhi Zhi’, met his mother after he only found out she was still looking for him last month after she posted a picture online.Subsequent DNA tests proved Zhi Zhi was Zhang Xuexia’s son and the pair have now held a tearful reunion.

The sad tale began in 1991 when Zhi Zhi was kidnapped outside his home in Guizhou Province, south-west China, by a trafficker who offered him sweets.

The unsuspecting toddler was then sold to another couple, for an unknown amount.

The couple reportedly never asked questions and believed that the child had been acquired through legitimate channels.

Zhi Zhi’s desperate mother began a relentless search across China for her son but was thwarted by the lack of a comprehensive database of missing children.

His father, Song Huainan, never get over the abduction and eventually killed himself in 2006 by jumping off a building and leaving a note which read: ‘I only want my son, Song Yangzhi.’

But Zhang, now 51, never gave up.

In desperation, she even resorted to travelling from city to city with a placard around her neck and pictures of Zhi Zhi in her hand.

The pair were almost reunited in 2011 when Zhi Zhi, who always suspected he was adopted, saw reports of a woman searching for her long-lost son.

But the reports said the missing child had a mole on his left arm and a birthmark on his left buttock.
